PPEC’s Recycled Content Survey was launched in 1990 and is conducted every two years, when PPEC surveys Canadian mills that make packaging grades about their paper packaging import and export shipments, to determine the average recycled content used to make paper-based packaging products in Canada.
Ensuring high levels of recycled content is a key part of the success of the paper packaging circular economy.
The mixture of using primarily recycled content, along with some new fibres from sustainably managed forests, is an important component of the paper packaging’s circular economy, which is why the Paper and Paperboard Packaging Environmental Council undertakes its research and tracks the use of recycled content.
PPEC’s 2022 Recycled Content Survey results demonstrate the continued success of the paper packaging's circular economy, and continues to confirm that the feedstock used for the production of boxboard and containerboard in Canada is made primarily from recycled content fibres.
